The support for two educators going to trial over school prayer continues to become more organized and better funded. Pace High School Principal Frank Lay and Athletic Director Robert Freeman will go before a federal judge on Thursday. They're accused of contempt of court after Lay asked Freeman to bless a school-day luncheon to celebrate the opening of a new field house.

Prosecutors say that violated an agreement the district had with the ACLU to block religion in the county's schools. The courthouse is likely to be packed. We're getting every indication that come Thursday morning, this area here along Palafox street will be packed with people. That's because we're right in front of the Federal Courthouse. It seems Even people with no connection to Pace High School still feel compelled to come out here to show their support.

Jeremy Empie is asking people to meet him at 5 am downtown to support Pace High Principal Frank Lay and Athletic Director Robert Freeman. The two are facing a contempt of court trial accused of having a part in prayer during a school-day luncheon. Empie, speaking through his assistant Shirley, says he's on a mission. Jeremy Empie Supports Frank Lay: "He say he feels it's really our responsibility as Christians to support this man of God."

So far 46 people have told Empie they'll be there over 200 have declined. Jeremy "Not everyone agrees with it and that's okay." But there are plenty who do agree. A Facebook fan club has hundreds of members and a legal defense fund, open for just over a month, has raised 70 thousand dollars. Pam Harrod/Supports Frank Lay: "This whole issue has made people's passiveness become passion. They want to show our community that this is what we believe in and we want it to continue."

Pam Harrod's youngest graduated from pace last year but she says she'll be at the courthouse none the less. Pam Harrod/Supports Frank Lay: "I plan to live in this community for a long time and I want my grandchildren to be able to have the same privileges that my children enjoyed. And it's an ongoing thing. We can't stop."And I talked to the Pensacola Police Department and the US Marshall's Service both of them expect a perfectly peaceful crowd but one thing to keep in mind if you are headed down here, you can not loiter on the steps of the Federal Courthouse or otherwise block the entrance to it, the US Marshall Service made a point to tell me they will be enforcing that rule.

This school prayer debate involving Pace High School began last year. That's when the ACLU filed a lawsuit against the school on behalf of two Pace High Students. In January, an agreement was reached in court between the school district and the ACLU. Then in February, Principal Lay allegedly asked the school's Athletic Director, Robert Freeman, to bless the meal. The trial for both men begins on Thursday.

  • I've already got my "Pontious Pilate for Governor" bumper sticker, but thanks anyway.

  • @CCnTaylor Sometimes? lol, you're being generous.

  • LOL! is she seriously trying to say she can translate that disabled student saying "uhhhh ahhh uh" into "He said he is on a mission and wants to have prayer in school" Seriously??

  • Sometimes Christians can be the most selfish, rude, disrespectful bunch of diluted jerks anywhere. I hope I never get like them. And may this country always honor religious freedom for everyone. Not just Christians.

  • Those who want to have prayer in public school should ask yourself this: Would I mind if my child were led in a Wiccan, Muslem, Hindu, Satanic, etc. prayer? If so, what the heck makes you think you should impose your prayer on others? Does 'Do unto others' mean anything to you. I guess not, hypocrite!

  • why cant they keep their brain dead prayers for inside their brain dead churches

  • See a special tribute, at onug.us, to the young men and women, students of Pace High School. Their moral courage, physical presence, spiritual resolve, and out pouring of love, stood in stark contrast to the ungodly men and women who came to pervert our Constitution and God's Laws, at a federal courthouse. It was remarkable to witness. They are the next great generation of Americans who will shortly come of age, and help restore this country to her firm foundation of obedience to Christ Jesus!

  • I went to this! I wore my Frank Lay shirt!! I love Mr. Lay!

  • while i would agree these individuals are not guilty in the sense they were not trying to convert or persuade anyone into theyr'e religous views. These men were still in the wrong religion does not belong in the school system in any form outside of the private religious schools. And some responsibility should have been taken by these men, if only to remind others of the separation of church and state

  • your ignorance is astounding So America and equality is available as long as you are christian eh? Lets see how many muslims started a wholesale slaughter and conversion of entire countries and cultures... hmm let me think oh ya none Christians millions upon millions and the oppression and slaughter are still going on today. Do yourself a favour read a book not published by a christian organization and gain some perspective
