i liked this review, im studying Dillinger for my dissertation at university, i very much enjoy the 1973 version, Oates is definitely a more convincing Dillinger. The book 'Public Enemies' by Brian Burrough is also very interesting if you havent read it, as most of the public enemies film is based on this book.
I haven't seen the '45 version, but I might check it out now. Ironically, the Milius version seems more set in the time than Public Enemies. Better character development in that film as well. Oates perfectly embodies Dillinger - a dirtier, complex character, definitely not a nice guy. I could do without the cheezy Ben Johnson voice-overs - they take you out of the film.
Well done my friend . Just saw the 3rd one tonight and I loved it. I wished they would showed the seen where he went back to to dads and showed that famous picture there. I liked how they showed the actual movie played at the biograph that night. Good Job
