Comparison of original 1931 b&w cartoon and the 1995 Korean re-drawn colorized version.
Files were downloaded from YouTube public videos and synchronized in editing software. Note sync slip in some scenes! The re-drawn version is never animated at 24 fps (as many scenes in the original are), but only with 12 drawings/second.

No copyright infringement is intended, this is assumed to be fair use for scholarly study and for critical commentary and discussion of the work in question. (Original 1931 copyright has apparently expired.)

  • Damn, The colorized print looks like crap

  • The thing he is pulling in the beginning to ring the bell is supposed to be the cat's tail, but they painted it the wrong color...

  • A rush job. Color does not change the era in which this was created, so leave it alone.

  • COLOR NEVER SCARED ME SO MUCH. Oh wait yes it has.

  • DBZ is still better.

  • damn it, the new one is so fucking creepy >:(

  • I did not knew Who framed roger rabbit? Actually got this theme song for toon town theme form this cartoon.

  • Pretty lousy to say the least. the consistency of the "remake" is on the level of a 5 year old child coloring in a book who can't stay inside the lines. A very sloppy effort that completely lacks the charm of the original.

  • The black and white one is better. It suits the ere of this cartoon and I have to admit, somehow the eyes in the colour version look a bit freaky. Like if they just took a large amount of coke or something :P/

  • The originals are always best. The redrawns sometime look like bird poop.

  • The 'redrawn" version probably was made back in the early 90's or sometime after the Popeyes had already been colored previous, I'm sure these were things that were stuck in Turner's vaults for the time being.
