Despite the bad weather and working hours, in Riga, Doma square at 12:00 people gathered and joined their hands to support Estonia and in the same time with like-minded fellows in Lithuania and Estonia confirmed Baltic unity. Flags from all three Baltic States waved, patriotic songs from the 1990-ties were played and people spouted Estonia-supporting slogans. The action was organized by the parties "Visu Latvijai!" ("All for Latvia!"), "Tēvzemei un Brīvībai/ LNNK ("For Motherland and Freedom/LNNK"), Klubs 415 (Club 415), Daugavas Vanagi ("Hawks of the Daugava"), Latvijas Nacionālā Fronte ("National Front of Latvia"), student corporation members participated as well as many other people who still consider Baltic common ideals to be very important.

Old patriotic songs were played, but the popular singers Aivars Brize un Niks Matvejevs singed a song devoted for the protection of Abrene, as well as the anthem of "All for Latvia!". Pep-up words for musters were told by Estonian ambassador in Latvia. With ovations people greeted the speech from hockey player Artur Irbe.

After people had joined hands and the anthem of the Baltic States had been played, the enthusiastic people went to the Monument of Freedom where altogether they sang the national anthem of Latvia.

A bit later in Lestene, in warrior's cemetery, hundreds of legionnaires and national partisans also expressed support to the action by joining their hands.

Nobody was sorrowful about the fact that the statesmen of Latvia did not participate in this action (in contradistinction to Lithuania where even the Prime Minister visited the undertaking) because it was an action for people with conscience and honour, not for cowards and toadies.

Latvians have meritoriously stood for the solidarity of the Baltic States. Three Baltic nations have showed that there would still be people that would stand on the barricades again, if needed. The dream of a true freedom is still not at an end. It will maintain in people's hearts for a long, long time.

  • Estonians - be sure, every normal Latvian will immediately go to fight for Estonia as for own. We feel and been together forever. Latvia remember summer of the 1919 when estonians defeated Golc's iron divisions and helped to establish independent state!!! We remember wery well, we'll never forget. Baltics - as one!!!

  • @kam1kadze123

actually it was said that it will be relocated because the troubles around it and it was really bad place to honor fallen soldier ... it's place should be in cemetary .. and they did it .. they offered russia to help estonia in it but answer was that that monument will never be moved from it's current place... so there was no other way .. actually in may it should be even more blood .. it was totally unexcpected that estonian goverment will relocate it so fast ..

  • Estonia Lettonia and Lituania are free and indipendent from 1991. They are in Nato and Ue and Estonia in 2011 will take Euro Money.....Russians and Soviets don't have any chance on Baltic Freedom!
