@yakyakyak69 It is important to remember that monopolies are impossible without at least tacit government approval. In the case of education today, it is explicit.

I visited the US Education System for a semester ( 6 months at a well known top college ) and was shocked to see how poor the education was throughout my peers 3/4 of the class could not comfortably perform basic calculus routines, this in an engineering class where mathematics is core.

I am an Australian University ( College) Mechanical + Mechatronic Engineering student, I would not have gotten here if it was not for a competitive natured attitude i had towards tests whether it be acedemic or physical. Which would you prefer for your children
a> 1 test completed at 100% return mark or,
b> 10 tests completed at 10% mark ?
Quality over quantity.

I taught for 10 years and worked far more than the 7 hour "work day." I spent hours after school lesson planning, grading papers and doing what I could to make the next day an enjoyable learning experience. I got reasonable pay until you factor in increasing insurance costs (which are far worse today). My biggest concern was getting kids who cared less about learning anything as much as I tried to "reel them in." Learning starts at home, And to associate pay with student outcome isn't fair.

@swu880 Plus there are parents that treat school like a holding pen, and they do not do anything to keep their kids on top of their school work. It all starts and home.
-
@swu880 First off, private & Charter schools get to pick who gets to attend them; Public schools have to take everybody, even the students who don't want to learn. Have a charter school take the demographic that publics have to, and the education will be the same. Unfortunately there are students that treat school like a holding pen; it is these students who lower the overall quality of education, and slowing the learning process by disrupting classes.
-
@swu880 It depends on where they are. Here in the Philadelphia suburbs, they make about $75,000.00 a year but in the center of Pa. they only make about $39,000.00.

Sorry not buying this hypothesis. Other countries use the same "assembly line" process. This issue is not about assembly lines. Inner city schools are were the drop-out rates are. For 50 years liberals have told blacks to be authentically black and to reject white consciousness. The rejection of "bourjois values" (i.e. raising children in a two parent home, strong work ethic, etc.) is the issue.
Improving schools will help but it will not FIX the problem.
Monopoly is ALWAYS bad.
Monopoly is bad when Corporations do it.
Monopoly is bad when the Federal Gov't does it.
Monopoly is bad when the unions do it.

EXACTLY
Crony-Corporatism aka Corporate Socialism via Redistribution & Regulation kllling off campaign contributor's competitors CREATES the environment where the weeds of monopoly corruption can grow & flourish.
Where in the Constitution does it say that Taxpayer money can be "invested" in private companies?
It's OUR fault for NOT forcing these corrupt polticians to honor their OATHS!
