HOUSTON, April 13 (UPI) -- Authorities say they are investigating the deaths of two Houston firefighters who were killed while battling a house fire.

Capt. James Harlow and Damien Hobbs of Station 26 were killed Sunday, KPRC-TV of Houston reported Monday.

The station said Harlow, 50, was hired by the department in 1979 and had been a captain at Fire Station 26 since 2004. Hobbs, 29, a probationary firefighter, had graduated from training in March.

Harlow and Hobbs were reportedly inside a burning southeast Houston home searching, along with other firefighters, for victims trapped inside.

The search was called off after flames became too intense, but the men did not make it out of the home. The two firefighters were removed from inside after the blaze was under control.

The civilians inside the home were unharmed in the blaze.
