I worked with a violinist in Hawaii during 1960-61. His name was Doug Chandler and he said he used to be third violinist with Spade Cooley. Might have been a great violinist but he wasn't much of a "fiddle player" for Hill Billy Music....

I only heard the name "Tolle" once in my travels all over in the Air Force. Guitar Picker named Jerry Tolle who worked at the Rocket Site at Edwards AFB CA back in 1963-64. He had a black Mosrite, favored the work of Joe Maphis, and he could MOVE!!. We worked a few local jobs together. Are you related??? Mil Whitt

I knew Don in the 60's and 70's. He played music with my parents. He was a great musician. He was a fantasic guitar and fiddle player. He always blew me away with what he could play.

Don and Bobby Tolle was two of a kind. Either of them could play a 2x4 board and make it sound beautiful. Both of these men taught me about everything I know about Music. As a singer and a fiddle player, I miss them very very much. (Bobbie Joe Gaines) Fiddler

Hugh, I'm Don's daughter, Leanna, from Dallas. Thx for posting the videos of him. He'd be amazed at the technology but would cuss it if he had to try to use it! The last fiddle that I knew that he used was a 5 string fiddle that was made by a man in Big Spring in the late '70's or '80's. Jody Nix currently has the fiddle and promises to return it to the family once he retires. Thank you so much for posting this. Would love to see more if you have them.

Don was a good friend of mine. He taught me a lot on swing rhythm guitar. A fine man and a good friend ,but a wonderful musician.

Randy...I'm glad I came across this video. I enjoyed listening to your uncle play.
Glad to see you both here Sonny and Randy. I will post some more of Don's music here, as soon as possible.

It does look like this violin has five strings. I seem to remember him saying it had the viola and violin tuning put together, just like the five string electric mandolin he played on the same day. I believe he said it gives him more range. Don't you count five strings, Scott?
