This is a video to show you how to get the checkered style mirrors caps you see on mini cooper's without having to shell out $200+ for OEM covers.
I got carbon fiber style vinyl from Rvinyl.com and cut them into 1 x 1 inch square pieces and put them on a checkered style pattern. You can use any color to match your body color, wheels, tint, etc.
You can get very creative with this material and have lots of money.

how does this hold up to bad weather? did you clear over them to offer any aditional protection?
thanks

@GhiaSteve89 they hold up just fine in the cold weather. The trick is to apply them in temperature above 50 degrees or so because it's hard to stick to the surface in the cold. Then use a heat gun or blow dryer on top to finish the job. You don't need protection on top of it.
