I think someone has been watching too much Blackadder. No I digress, yes soldiers survived, yes many died, condition were appaling but still people lived in them.
I see your point but remember, the Great War was the worst war ever fought. Never before had a war like this been fought and such casualties inflicted. That is why we started in 1920 the act of remembrance. So that no one forgets what war does.

- Conditions were not wet all the time, and most were comfortable for the soldiers
- Plenty of tommies survived going over the top.
