Vivica Genaux, star of Virgin Classics complete recording of Vivaldis opera Bajazet, follows her 2006 solo recital of Handel and Hasse with this brilliant new programme of Vivaldi arias, some never before recorded .
The dazzling arias in this programme some of which have never been recorded or, indeed, performed in concert illustrate the different phases and forms of Vivaldian pyrotechnics, exploring every emotion and the most diverse dramatic situations, and continually varying instrumentation, tonality and tempo. The composer of the Four Seasons, flamboyant as ever, sets his unique operatic stamp.

Diese Aufnahmen sollte sich die ach so sehr preisgekrönte Cecilia Bartoli anhören - so singt man Vivaldi - ohne diese lästigen gemeckerten "H"s, die es im Italienischen eh nicht gibt, die aber Frau Bartoli unaufhörlich von sich gibt. Je preiser gekrönt, desto durcher gefallen. Da kann ich nur sagen:

Why does she have an overactive jaw I thought that was a sign of poor vocal technique b/c her voice sounds tense all the time :/

Das sehe ich genauso. Die Bartoli der letzten Jahre ist nur noch eine durch Medienkampagne Hochgepuschte. Für meine Ohren ein ziemlicher Graus. Stimmlich fand ich sie nie außergewöhnlich. Und bei den allzu vielen CD-Aufnahmen hat garantiert das Mischpult nachgeholfen.

I've always thought of her as the logical successor to Marilyn Horne...her voice isn't as dark as Horne's, but she has that same wonderful flexibility and agility...and what a beautiful vocal tone!
