This is my cover of the folksy Beatles tune "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" from their Abbey Road album. It's a fun song to play. I recorded the piano and lead vocal live. Then I dubbed in the backing vocals as an afterthought.

Although the song's storyline is rather morbid and dark, ironically the tune is very catchy and upbeat. Which I guess prevents the listener from taking the song too seriously.

Enjoy!

[ADDENDUM: The audio seems top be out of sync with the video. You can see the same video, but in sync, with stereo sound at MySpace; http://myspacetv.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=33483809

I don't know why, but MySpace's FLV videos seem to be of much better quality that YouTube.]

  • great piano cover. I would like to play it too.

Could you please tell us the name of the beatles piano book you are reading??

  • @trinitxu

I wasn't using the sheet music from any particular songbook, per se. I was just following the song's chord progression, trying to match the original recording as close as possible.

For whatever it's worth, though, I learned said chord progression from "The Beatles Best" songbook ("Over 120 Great Beatles Hits" (Piano, Vocal Guitar) published by Hal Leonard.)
