Dude. It's George Hearn. He pretty much MADE that part. haha and the script was written for his kind of voice.

  • Len Cariou did create the role. George was the understudy who ended up performing for the filming date. Len, sadly, gets overlooked before the tape became a cult hit. But have to say, George is the ultimate Sweeney. He has the sweet and injured and crazy all balanced so that you love him no matter what.

  • The play is awesome. The movie was awesome. Anything remotely Sweeney related is awesome. Johnny and George were both awesome. Angela, Patti, and Helena were all awesome. End of story.

  • George Hearn makes this whole entire musical. Instead of bringing the insanity he brings the humanity. Because let's all face it. We are all crazy we just need soomething to bring it to life and george pretends to keep his cool until he gets ticked off like all we humans do. If you get my drift

  • I wish George Hearn and Angela Lansbury could be my grandparents <3

  • @Kris1907 He wasn't the understudy- George was Sweeney in the touring version whereas Cariou was the original sweeney on broadway that was never recorded

  • @franknfurter75 Yeah, I wish they had more, but it's what it is. Without the movie, I wouldn't know about the play, and I very much enjoy the play too. It's just a thing of preferences, you know? I wish people would stop bickering and just enjoy it.

  • Can we stop the "the movie was better", "no, the play was" please? I mean, Tim Burton cast everyone for the movie before he heard them. It was Johnny's first time singing anything at all. Helena trained and trained to be Mrs. Lovett; they all worked very hard to play the part. I'm not saying that they're trained to do it, but they did their best and the movie was supposed to be a movie experience, not the play. You cannot see just the film and say you have "seen" the musical. So just shut up.

  • @CaliCaliente00 No it's not. Well, maybe it is, but this is Sweeney Todd. Who ISN'T a little insane?

Men with gorgeous voices are hot...

  • I love George Hearn in this role. He's...perfect. (and I think he's hot, though he could be my granfather XD...that's insane I know .-.)

  • @Kris1907 George hearn wasnt the understudy. He was the replacement. Len and Angela lfet the show after thaeir run. the replacement for angela was Dorothy Loudon. The tapeing Was fromm the broadway national tour. And they asked hearn and lansberry to play the roles. But you are right about one thing. George is Sweeney.

  • God George, just marry me.
