Both line ups are made up of true musicians. With Michael there were differences, true, but he was the leader/ singwriter they chose when Tom was not available and he not only "kept the band going", he crafted some amazing music that had a major impact on all of music and broadened Doobies audience. Agree with comments about the richness of the compilations that contains both Tom and Michael tunes.

Michael McDonald didn't ruin the Doobie Brorothers. He saved them when Tom Johnston had to leave the band for health/drug problems. Johnston is back and they are killing it. Check out the Doobie Brothers Live The Wildlife Concert or Live At Wolftrap. The Doobie Brothers are great with or without McDonald.
