The end of the school year is an exciting time for kids but it can also be stressful one—particularly for high school students getting ready to write their final exams. Carolyn Siebert from Oxford Learning Stoney Creek brings us the following study tips to help your kids make that final grade!

We all remember the feeling of anxiety that goes hand-in-hand with writing tests. A common mistake is pulling a 'cram session' the night before the exam, which is that last ditch effort to memorize facts and figures late into the night. This approach can actually do more harm than good—and there's nothing more frustrating than putting in the work and not getting the results. On the other hand, by learning how to study effectively and by combining good study habits with good time-management skills, students will be storing information in their long-term memories, which stops them from 'freezing up' on their tests.

At Oxford Learning, both the parent and the child are taught how to deal with the stress of test time. Often the instructor will sit down with both parent and child to discuss what the best strategy for their household might be. Some students are visual learners, while others might be auditory—so knowing your child's learning style is the first step to developing a successful study strategy before test-time.

Here are three helpful tips for successful studying:

1. Start early, make a study schedule -- your child should have enough time to wrap up other projects while beginning to review material from earlier in the year.

2. Study actively, not passively -- encourage your child to use a pencil, circle key words, write notes and ask questions.

3. Read, cover, rewrite -- by putting the message into his or her own words, your child will be engaging in the material as opposed to just memorizing it.

  • @HB3l1 yea ryt. that's wot i do sometimes.. :)

  • TRACY is Beautifuuuuuul.. That;s all I know :D

  • great tips thank you very munch

  • Here is my technique. I have a book in front of me and a notebook as well, firstly I read one or two pages, then I write in the notebook the text I learned, and I write a definition I created by myself ( they are correct, and very similar to the one I read, I just reshaped them in order to learn them ), sometimes I add some extra details which I found an extremely easy to remember, and actually interesting. The more you speak about it, the more smart you will look.

  • procrastinators unite!... tomorrow

  • That tip girl has got to get her eye brows plucked..

  • @a7oable Yes I know this, I'm just pointing out that different people learn in different ways. I also stated that I do need to study sometimes, just in different words. well the words imply it. I hope.

  • @ryuhyabusa1000 but over all 90% of people cant do what u say they have to study and u know what i dont study every day though i get good grades but atleast i have to study

  • @a7oable I think you mean "how stupid are you? If you study every day you will get good grades." Also, on a side note, some people do learn faster. I can get great grades without picking up a book 'cause I heard it in class, I can get great grades from reading stuff over for a bit. So can my friends. Just goes to show, some people can learn faster than others and in different ways.

  • is this staged?
