I saw his right hand stick go flying on the Johnny Carson show. He calmly reached to front of his kit to get the spare, all the while doing a left hand roll. Truly the master.

the great thing about this video is the end, when buddy breaks the STICK and continues to play, it's really great !! :))

Correct me if I am wrong; but this was taken off of the 1982 Montreal Jazz Festival DVD, yes? The solo here is amazing, as were all of his solo's.

I miss Buddy's incredible energy when he was cookin' with his band and i was lucky to see him one in a live concert. We all have heard about his tirade, tantrums, aggressive nature, possibly related to the brain tumor that took him out. But how he could play like that night after night like a nuclear reactor ready for a serious meltdown is beyond understanding. The guy was like a well oiled machine, all the gears spinning in perfect sync.
That's Milt Hinton on electric bass!
Beautiful.

At 1:09, a few seconds after those blazing paradiddledidles, the sitting bass player says, "Wow, that motherf---er is fast"
