Robyn performing the traditional Swedish folk song "En dejlig rosa" (a.k.a. "Jag vet en dejlig rosa") at Stockholm City Hall, January 10th 2005, as part of a memorial service for the victims of the Asian tsunami disaster.
With Björn Yttling (of Peter Bjorn and John fame) at the piano.

The lyrics in old Swedish, with my English translation in brackets:

Jag vet en dejlig rosa
(I know a rose so fair)
och vit som liljeblad
(and white as lily petals)
När jag på henne tänker
(When I think of her)
så görs mitt hjärta glad
(my heart is filled with joy)
Dess stämma ger en hjärtans tröst
(Her voice brings solace to my heart)
likt näktergalens blida röst
(like the soft sound of the nightingale)
Så hövisk och så ljuv
(So gracious and so sweet)

När solen fagert stiger
(When the pleasant sun goes up)
är hon som purpur klar
(she is as bright as purple)
Gud, låt dig aldrig sörja
(God, may you never grieve)
men alltid vara glad
(and always be happy)
Må de få komma samman
(May they come together)
i hjärtans fröjd och gamman
(rejoicing to their heart's delight)
Som längta till varann
(Those who miss each other)

Var dag går solen neder
(Each day, the sun goes down)
och dagelig uppgår
(and every day it rises)
När kommer dagen blider
(When will that blessed day arrive)
då jag dig skåda får?
(that I can lay my eyes on you?)
I hågen är du städs mig när
(In my heart, you are forever close to me)
Farväl, farväl, min hjärtlig kär
(Farewell, farewell, my dear beloved)
Mångtusende godnatt
(A thousand times good night)

  • Respect, thats the word! She's such a good artist, and knows by 200% exactly what she's doing with her voice. This performance really proves it, and it makes it even more sad that she sings for the victims of the Tsunami in Thailand. Robyn is the greatest Swedish music export since ABBA!
