This is the penultimate track from my 2nd album, "At the Dream's Edge" released digitally via Basick Records on April 12th, 2010!

Nothing too fancy here - I decided editing was too hard, so you can just decide what you'd like to watch yourself ;]

Stuff used in this song:

RG2228
H&S Custom 6 String (no longer own!)
Drum Kit From Hell Superior 1
Reason 4
Nexus 2
Cubase 5

  • Nice work, superb tones. I'm looking to get back into home recording and stuck between HD500, HD Pro, Eleven Rack, Axe-FX II. Bearing in mind cost of foot controllers and bundled pro tools 10 with the eleven rack what do you suggest? I love the shimmer fx's in the Line 6 gear (far cheaper than the Axe FXII) but I also want to record a dry mono track (just in case), I also want decent fx editing and good but easy sequencing. Any advice would be welcome of anybody, thanks

  • @pmay222 It's primarily a 7 string song, but I use the 8th string for a downwards slide off of a B (which I couldn't do with a fixed bridge) and for the swing time riff in the middle. So in a word, yes. Yes I do need 8 strings ;) Look at the Bad Code video if you'd like to see use of the full range of this instrument.

  • @pmay222 Why take advantage of a whole piano then? They may be the same notes, but they certainly don't make the same sound. He obviously doesn't NEED 8 strings, but it let's him take advantage of both lower and higher octaves. If he were to just tune low to say B standard, his high notes would also be forced to be that low. Adding the extra strings gives him a much wider range.

  • Is this in the key of of G?

  • @pmay222 Different tuning to create different octave and full chord sounds. I mean why bother drop tuning a guitar? Lol because it's different and new chords phrasings and sounds are possible.Tosin abasi plays and Rg2228 tuned to EAEADGBE. Instead of just doing barred 6 string chords he can play barred 8 string chords and it creates a more full tone. Sort of like how a keyboard adds dynamics to a live sound.

  • @pmay222 The more strings the more possibilities. :D

  • @Pmay222 it gives lower, heavier tone, and feels more percussive?

  • you are up there with John pretruci man i am not even jokin. LOve your stuff bro!!! :D :D :D :D

  • does he really need 8 strings..? does it have any advantage seeing as there are only 8 notes in an octave anyway..? this sounds just like all the rest so why bother..?

  • 8 dislikes? really? I dont know how anyone could dislike this. Even if its not your style you have to appreciate this type of talent and skill.
