As its' name suggests, The Continental Divide Trail follows the geologic feature which divides the water flow for the north american continent, which is to say, it follows the spine of the Rocky Mountains from the U.S./ Mexican Border to the U.S./Canada Border. Also known as "The CDT", it is a very challenging, rugged, remote trail which stretches for some 3,300 plus miles. Bart Smith walked and photographed the CDT over two years, 250 miles is in 2007 and 3,100 in 2008. Barts' CDT venture was part of a greater endeavor to walk and photograph all of Americas' National Scenic Trail system which at the time was comprised of 8 trails. A unique aspect of Barts' CDT venture was he wanted to complete the CDT in time to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the National Tralls Act at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History on October 2nd of 2008. Bart finished the CDT on the morning of October 1st and flew to Washington D.C. in time to give his slide presentation at the 40th commemoration. Because Bart was carrying 15 plus pounds of camera gear (in addition to his camping gear) he chose to put his back pack on a baby stroller along a few sections of New Mexico and Wyomings' Great Divide Basin. He does not recommend using a baby stroller on actual trail tread.

Wonderful ! An absolute masterpiece! Bart, You are getting really good at this. We love your work. Lou, Misaki, Troy and I just watched this one. Everyone says, "Hello Uncle Bart"! When the kids grow up I think they will want to go hiking with you. I'm sure you will still be on the trail (hopefully still walking). Tim
