DMinor9 = D, F, A, C, E
CMajor9 = C, E, G, B, D

This is an advanced piano lesson, you should attempt this pattern after you've been playing piano for at least a year or more!

If you sped this up enough, it could be a samba groove I think.
But this bossa nova groove covers
the left hand bass line
two chords in the rh: Dm9 & Cma9
Slower examples

Latin Music rhythms are difficult, don't be discouraged, just practice a little bit each day. Hands separately.

  • hey man... im learning Piano... im 21... And thats...the most easier Tuto I ever seen before. Thanks... If You dont mind... Im going to take this, to put in a Hip Hop Track... It will sound great!!!!!.... Could I?

  • @thewafflemusic - yeah go for it! just send me a copy!!!

  • do you have any comments about how the harmonic progression of bossa nova songs go? I always get confused, it seems like they change key alot. and from songs like little boat and girl from ipamena.. the only pattern i can figure out is that the bass moves around in tritones until it gets back to tonic... somehow (???)

  • @Clearie552 jobim was a really advanced harmonic composer! thats one of the things that makes his music really interesting to listen to! Wave for example has some great harmonic progressions. Don't try to "break the code" for bossa nova chords... because their isn't really one. Just learn chord progressions and put them in your memory. 2-5-1 is a really common jazz progression that is used A LOT in jazz and bossa nova... its really interesting when you break out of that standard pattern.

  • @PrinZe444 - thats cool. good for you! :)

  • Thank's you made a really good tutorial! I highly appreciate it. The difficult part at 3:36 could have been a bit longer to hear oneself into the rythm in order to copy it. But I succeeded anyhow. So thanks again.

  • @thewafflemusic You did a great job of it mate, congrats

  • this is exactly the kind of tutorial I was looking for. simple, straight forward. You leave place for the user to use his own creativity, thanks!

  • piano too soft...

  • great tutorial, thanks for sharing (y)

  • Great video. I have a question. Are you supposed to remove the left hand simple bass line C G when there is a bass player? When you are playing with them, do you think it gets in the way and when it does, how do you still make use of your LH ? Sorry if this is confusing or out of context for this video. Thanks!

  • Thank you so much for this tutorial. Really simplifying and breaking it down to the basic or core of the parts for playing this genre. This is good for someone like me who learned playing piano by ear. Keep it up and looking forward to more of your work. :D
