Derana News 05 03 2009 Top rung Tigers leading final battle

With the unstoppable advance of the Sri Lanka Army, the LTTE is reportedly hard-pressed for leaders. Most of the top rung leaders have been relegated to lead the fighting, sources say.




The latest to join the frontline is said to be Rathnam Master, an elusive top rung Tiger leader whose identity SL Army intelligence had been unable to exactly pinpoint. He is said to be the LTTEs head of military intelligence. The SL Army had stumbled upon some photo albums around two weeks back and had been able to identify a picture of Rathnam Master, sources said. He is said to be a ruthless leader and very close to Prabhakaran. His orders of shoot to kill any deserters is said to be keeping the remaining cadres in line.

Rathnam Master was the man behind the LTTE attacks on the Anuradhapura airbase and Vavuniya Security Forces Headquarters. Army Intelligence has been studying him for years, particularly after he was appointed head of the Ratha Regiment, V. Prabhakarans own protection unit and special operations group, sources revealed.
