  • good to see tacoma teachers have backbone, everyone else been taking it all over the country...pushed around and put down, I hope they stand strong...unlike the other 300 million American sock puppets....my only suggestion is stop laughing and making nice-nice...remember Ludlow Colorado Miner Strike...this is serious biz..........good luck tacoma

  • @TheHobbgobblin Yes, I understand the laughing part, but people need their spirits lifted up. If we're not peaceful about this strike, then we're no different from the district that used their powers to try and control us.

  • why are they on strike?

  • @TheLastOutlaw0 - Because they are unsatisfied with the average annual compensation of $80,000.

If the guy holding the sign is the same Brent Gaspaire that was interviewed on KOMO TV, then it's worth noting that his $65K/year in compensation translates to roughly $50/hr in total salary.

  • @HexTest The teachers want fair contracts, smaller class sizes (40+ people in AP US isn't going to work & there's also safety issues since a small classroom's max. is around 30), seniority, and reassignment (why would you reassign music teachers as math teachers). If you're wondering as far as timing goes and why they didn't negotiate before school started, it's because of the district not wanting to go to the table to negotiate since March (the original date teachers wanted to negotiate).

  • @TheLastOutlaw0 Please refer to my comments @HexTest.

    "& Tara you too"

Yeppp. i got called out .

    LOL.

  • @HexTest They're not underpay. but their not OVERPAY either and money came out from their own pocket and scholarship money, what point are you making ?

  • Tacoma teachers might as well have a little fun, get to know each other and bond together on the strike line. Solidarity is a great thing.

  • @HexTest i was there with these guys since the very first day of strike, i never hear them say : " Give us more money" i just mostly hear they chant : " Fair contract, smaller class and respect that's all", they're teachers, not business man, most of their pay go back to the school and their students anyways, for example if a teachers need papers and ask the teachers for a note book, that note book come from the teacher's own pocket, as yo see, they're not spending all their paid on them self

  • @TheSewbunny - Oh sure, I know money by itself isn't what helped these people make their career choices.

But to say they are underpaid is nonsense.

  • @HexTest i don't suppose you would change after you read this because in your head, you might think of my comment as a tiny whisper. But i'd like to ask you to think , because i know you're much much intelligent. Have you ever consider this is not about money ? Have you listens to more than 1 voice? Or rather your children, your futures that is much more important ? Have you ever question yourself: " Did i ask enough questions before i made a statements? Or i just make them with ignorance?

  • @HexTest Actually, they're not in it for the money (if they were, they all wouldn't be a teacher in the first place). Besides, they've agreed to take pay cuts and such recently because of the strike. The people who's all in it for the money is the district (Supt. Jarvis). [continued]
