I agree, if she skated anything like she did in that sp at euros that year where they for some reason had her 3rd. It seems like the judges did the same thing there, although that lp performance wasn't so much of a splatfest aside from one major fall.

I *still* love her skating...her smooth edges, the lines, etc.--there's something about her skating that is captivating to me.

By Soviet skating standards, Ivanova was considered an innovator for thier contries women skaters - she was the first Soviet woman to win an individual medal at an Olympic games (she won bronze in '84) and was a vetran of 3 Olympiads ('80. '84, '88) -- that being said her style was very erratic and she was terribly inconsistent in her perormances, although was the queen of compulsary figures in the mid to late '80's -- sadly in 2001 she was murdered in a random stabbing attack in her appartment

It seems to me like the judges pushed her down in the SP knowing she would likely not hold up in the long program. With her incredible figures and good short program at worlds she should have been given a great advantage and yet I believe they held her back in the short program in order for the stronger free skaters to over take her in the long program.
