I'm in the same vote as you... i am buying the D3000 I have tried the D60 and the EOS and in my opinion the Nikon is more user friendly. Totally up to you tho.

dealing with the same confusion myself. though only from picture quality point of view, canon 1000d will reproduce better pictures, that is what i understood by looking at the sample images from both the cameras.
which do you think has better photo quality? canon sx10 or nikon d3000

The SX10 is exceptionally good in bright daylight, and colour reproduction is accurate. Indoors it also performs well, although noise does creep into the images as the light dwindles. Some photos lack a little sharpness here and there, but the overall performance was great - including macro photography.

While we haven't yet lab-tested the D3000 our initial opinion is that it captures sharply defined images with little graininess - even in low light conditions. The colour reproduction under artificial light is a little inaccurate, and macro shots with the kit lens aren't terrific.
In general, the D3000 is likely to take better shots than the SX10 as the DSLR sensor is larger than that on the SX10; what's more the D3000 allows you to add lenses, which will improve the image no end

with the D300s vid recording are you still limated to 5 minuts when recording tetherd

The recording time limit is to do with the limit on the file size that can be recorded, so it is probably still the same. Other cameras record over multiple files to get around this.
