I believe they are the great grandchildren of Baron Von Trapp and perhaps Maria Von Trapp.... and that they perform at family lodge in New England.

@icq1961 Yep, actually the kids all lived in Montana @ the time, and Jack Hanna apparently goes hiking there a lot or has a home there or something, so they met back in the day & made friends. And Jack said him & the football coach have been friends for years!
