Film Description: The Man of Steel returns to the big screen with this continuation of the icon's film legacy that picks up after the events of the first two Christopher Reeve films. Some time has passed since the events of Superman II and the world has gotten used to life without Superman (Brandon Routh) ever since his puzzling disappearance years earlier. Upon his return, he finds a Metropolis that doesn't need him anymore, while Lois Lane (Kate Bosworth) has moved on with another young suitor Richard White (James Marsden) in the meantime. As the hero begins to tackle the fact that life on Earth has continued without him, he is forced to face his old arch-nemesis Lex Luthor (Kevin Spacey) and restore the life that was once his. Directed by Bryan Singer from a script by the writing team of X-Men 2, Superman Returns marks a return to the screen for the man in tights, whose production history has seen many failed attempts including a famous near-miss from Tim Burton and Kevin Smith with Nicolas Cage in the lead role, along with another from director McG and writer J.J. Abrams (Lost). Singer eventually won the prestigious gig when he pitched the idea to not tackle the origin story again, but continue with director Richard Donner's original vision.

  • I never understood why most people feel dismissive about this movie. I guess because it was a step away from a physical superhero movie. In my opinion, it was meant to be about emotions and the weakness Superman is not usually attributed: his heart. It was less about good vanquishing evil, and more about self-anguish giving way to one's emotional peace.

  • @erzan he cant save every1 dude at once dude and thats the curse of being a powerful hero and yet less then a god, he doesnt choose who lives and who dies, he chooses where his help and abilities are needed more. a house on fire can have a fire deparment near by, sum who has a seizure can b saved by an ambulance but a bank etc. with ppl being held hotage at gun point is a different thing when you think about it.

  • @Stridus7 it was the atmosphere trying to prevent foreign objects entering earth by super heating them and eventually blowing it to bits. but of course superman is not a meteorite

  • @KeiMontague he wasn't juts listening to metropolis. if he was than why was there a chinese news report in there?

  • @KeiMontague u sound like a faggot english teacher

  • @KeiMontague Yes I agree, for many of the young generation today, it was more that this Superman was in the style of the classic Donnor Superman films, and kids today want everything either remade, or re-imagined for thier era and time, thier Generation. New Star Trek is a example of this, same thing happens all the time wen classic songs get covered by newer popular artists of the time. But I totally understand wot ur saying, I luv Superman Returns.

  • @Stridus7 dude, he entered earth's atmosphere.... you don't know where the sonic boom came from?...... I really don't need to explain this... but.... are you fucking kidding me?

  • @KeiMontague 100% agree. Beautifully stated. I always felt it was a beautiful way to tell this particular superhero story, to really focus on the superho's inner emotions and soul. This is why it always touched me and still does. Thank you, Mr. Singer, and don't be bogged down by too many criticisms.

  • how can you preform a sonic boom when there's no sound in space?

  • This shot was crazy because it was all computer rendered. Even him. The only time you see the actual actor is when he opens his eyes and then dives. But that 360 swing you see of him, up to the point where the camera closes up to the side of his face is all CGI. Very impressive craftsmanship from the effects department

  • @erzan I thought he was only a few thousand feet up, just listening to Metropolis. Also, Lucius makes a valid point. If he tried to save everyone. he's be physicall and mentally exhausted in days, not to mention he'd fail half as often as he succeeded. And to Appart's comment, publishers addressed that too in a Christmas special. Dictators would try to thwart his attempts, even by killing the ones he's trying to help, in an effort to maintain authority of fear over his subjects.

  • @erzan I watched the movie again recently, and i thought "Wait, you couldn't see Africa from up there ? You just picked up a robbery ?" :/
