I know I'm not going to be popular for saying this but his lutzs aren't correct. He puts his toe in the ice backwards which is fine, but that foot turns to forwards before it leaves the ice which means he takes off forwards, which i'm afrade isn't a lutz. I don't know it was marked as a quad lutz but really it shouldn't have been. Taking off backwards is part of all jump definitions, excluding the axel of course. I'm sorry if people disagree, i'm not tyring to offend any one, its just the truth.

@lcowles plushenko and Lysachek received the exact same artistic marks. But some how he beat Plushenko on technical. Anyone seriously saying that he should have won (Lysachek) is not looking at the facts.

@atso1981 Sounds right to me. Now explain that to all the whiners that complained Plushenko should have gotten the gold in 2010.

@lutz84 Totally agree. There is so much dumbing down in skating today. OK it's important to have good footwork, artistry etc but for f**ks sake people: this is a QUAD LUTZ!
-
@RCskater97 when the show the slowmo later on, you can see that he cheated the lutz on the way in a bit and by more than a quarter on the way out. plus the unsteady landing and lack of footwork going into the lutz! If the jump isn't perfect or near perfect then the skater will get dinged, simple as that

@RCskater97 Requirement for solo jump in short program should be preceded by quality footwork. Brandon had 2 swizzles 1 itsy bitsy turn with no difficulties before the 4 lutz. Judges who gave 0's for GOE were of great mercy. -1's and -2's were about right.

I think the eventual intention is to have the quad lutz be in combination in this program (assuming it's landed cleanly). Later on in the routine, he has steps into his triple lutz, so I assume that was intended to be the solo jump. A well done 4Lz-3T could be worth in excess of 18 points.

Did he finish skating behind the music?

I think that the new IJS rules can be a bit of a double edged sword when it comes to things like this quad lutz. However I'm happy that we're not seeing the same situations that kept appearing in the late 1990's and early 2000's where someone would win for producing a quad but not having the overall package. I think here the judges got it right - Mroz's overall quality is not up to the standard of some of the other men yet but give it two years... Look out 2014 for Brandon Mroz!!! :-)
I miss the old days of skating where this would be BIG DEAL ... like seriously BIG DEAL .... now, it's 1.6 points over Daisuke Takahashi's 3F/3T while Daisuke's step sequence was scored 1.8 points over Brandon's .... I mean yes I love Daisuke's program and yes I think jumping is not the only thing but .... IT'S A QUAD LUTZ .... how can it be just 1.6 points more than a 3F 3T (which a female skater did consistently even when she was a junior)
