"Armed forces" is a general term here. We have many branches of the armed forces. You are probably thinking of a platoon of marines with sniper rifles chasing down a balloon. The National Guard's main purpose is to help during a domestic emergency, i.e. earthquake, flood, homemade hot air balloon flying through the air, reportedly containing a child.

PLEASE do not justify people sending ARMED FORCES to hunt down a child that has been suspected to of floated off in a balloon... there is literally no explanation you can give that will make that its a good idea.
