A few Garter Snakes will hiss, but it is very rare. I had a 32" Red-sided Garter Snake when I was 13. When Redsides got angry, she would vibrate her tail, bridge her body, open her mouth, let out a 1-2 second hiss (sounded like a cat hissing), and eventually strike with a catlike hiss. She behaved just like a Fox Snake. She was the ONLY Garter Snake I EVER encountered which behaved this way.

Indeed and don't forget all the musking my garters won't do. :D I got hit by a good blast again today while cleaning the N. maura enclosure.
