......here is the maiden flight of my GreatPlanes Cherokee 40 ARF. with Saito FA-80 4-stroke engine.
I used an APC 12x8. Glowplug is an O.S. type #F & fuel is as always CoolPower 15%N-18% oil. Check the assembly thread here : http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=10419268
All went smooth but the wind was arround 7knots....

The only negative was the aftermarket muffler.....it came loose on the maiden flight after 3-4 minutes in the air....
And it came loose with only the exhaust fuel line ( pressure line ) keeping it from falling-off.....BUT the engine didn't die, she kept runnin' and eventually i land it safely, without using the flaps. I tried the stall characteristics and without flaps you can use your ailerons from keeping the wing horizontal, while the airplane looses altitude gradually.

If you then use flaps @ 30deg. as mine are set, then you have a *glider-like* airframe,no kidding!!!
It is unpossible to stall it.....

The Saito FA-80 @ APC 12x8 gives the airframe very very nice power. At WOT the airframe can climb vertically effortlessly!

  • It seems you have too much elevator throw. Reduce the throw or add exponential on the transmitter.

  • @peterlution actually no. not too much throw. it was the maiden flight and it was untrimmed.

  • @dreamwisperer Hey, go electric. It's clean and not that expensive. Recently I build my own with electric configuration. Check out my video on YouTube. Search for peterlution.

  • @peterlution no, no electric.

  • @71259mark I didn't install it on purpose....in order to prevent a possible overheating. Ofcourse during the next flights....

  • @dreamwisperer Where's the cowling?

  • @emiliomahias Guys, watch my t-shirt ...... the wind that day was awefull, despite the *good* weather forecast!

  • @emiliomahias I think that i've set my flaps at either 30 or 40 degrees....i am going to lower though to 20 degrees of defflection!

  • @emiliomahias Actually the engine is not that big...during take off i had problems with the direction of the wind....the Cherokee took-off heading to a direction that was vertical to the direction of the wind....i know, bad decision....but the other guys where sitting at the wrong position so i had no choice....anyway, everything went ok....

  • good video, really long =P!!! I think the engine its just too big for the plane...but it sounds great, got to love four stroke engines, make new videos i will be specting them, good luck
