I cannot wait to have my own cello, inspired precisely because of playing like this - like Slava's; like Fournier, like Starker, like Feuermann. Such human passion and core beauty exists only in the hearts and minds of our species, as far as we know. Who can not embrace this perfection of mind? It is glorious!

@C0urante That is indeed odd. However, the continuing sound doesn't match the sound beforehand, so I'd guess this is either the reverberations of his cello or of the piano.

Odd... at 1:30 his bow visibly leaves the string but the Bb continues, even with vibrato. Is it possible this might have been 'lip-synced'?

amazing!

Love it!!
That was so cute!! Haha

It is an interesting question .A lot of neurology is being tested on animals but soul & passion ? Elephants, tigers or spiders & insects ? I wonder.Anyway ,I've never heard such perfect intonation from a cellist. Always difficult on string instruments.

Because he knows where all the notes are.
Just as anyone who has mastered walking doesn't need to look at their legs.

Yes : it is a transcription indeed. Reduction for cello and piano from one theme of his orchestral ballet "Romeo and Juliet ".
Wonderful! When was this recorded?

You know, that's a good question. It actually doesn't say a date on the DVD. I'm guessing sometime in the 50s but am not really sure. Maybe you can google it or something (from the DVD titled "Heifetz & Piatigorsky" by Kulture productions)
