  • I had the same problem (video under my account). Mini said it was the Chain Tensioner

  • Take the car to your dealer, there is a fix to this. PuMA: 10686850-13 Bullet: SIM 11-02-07 List of parts, that need to be replaced: M11.31.7.597.895 tensioner (most up-to-date version) M11.31.7.534.784 timing chain M11.31.7.534.771 stud M11.31.7.568.241 rail M11.31.7.546.697 guide rail M11.31.7.534.833 chain tensioner M11.31.7.588.996 sprocket M11.31.7.534.768 stud (2 of these) M11.31.7.596.087 torx bolt M11.31.7.545.863 torx bolt Hope it helps.
  • I've had 3 Minis; a 2002 Cooper with the CVT automatic, a 2005 S with the 6-speed auto and a 2007 S 6-speed auto, which I just got rid of after paying $6,000 for a new engine, thanks to a bent piston rod. 2,000 mile out of warranty and Mini/BMW would do nothing to help me. Mini's cars, dealer netweork and customer relations all suck. I had run-arounds with all 3 that I owned. Never again will I deal with Mini or BMW. I now drive a 2011 Honda CR-Z hybrid and I love it!!!

  • Anyone with this problem bring it to bmw garage ASAP, i had same i was told by bmw that it was due to being so tuned but then that sound which was timing belt got as bad as what your hearing now and it snapped lucky my whole engine did not go with it. This noise was report under warrent but was a month outside when it snapped. Now locked in legal battle over who pays the 1200 euro tab on it

  • Had the same problem it was my alternator

    It was shredded inside

  • MINI has a fix for this problem

  • I'd pass. Just incase it has a bad bearing/rod.

  • I am about to purchase a 2008 cooper s with the same engine sound, should I pass on it or still purchase?

  • My brand new (< 200km) R56 Cooper (Non-S) has the same problem.

  • Sounds like a diesel, tbh....that needs to be fixed pronto.

  • My fiancee has the same problem in his 06 bmw 330xi. Take it to the dealer to get fixed. I'm so glad my 08 MCS doesn't do that!

  • This issue is unacceptable. Resolve this problem ASAP, MINI/BMW!

  • My R56 Cooper S does the same have you been to the garage to ask if it can be fixed because its really annoying!!!

  • Having the same issues with my 207 gti any resolution as of yet?
