  • @rowan4life try revving it, and you'll see it sounds like a perfect straight 6.

  • I can fall asleep to that engine sound. Love this car - I got to have it.

  • @areitu yeah but those engines are much smaller and less powerful than this engine.

  • amazing cars! 335i bi turbo you can't touch that sound! its on another level!..

  • @micahaaaa Also what makes new diesel quiet is the injection system. Called common rail. Uses high pressure fuel injectors that deliver precise amounts of fuel. These pressures can exceed 27,000 PSI. The big thing that changes sound is how many times the fuel injector fires per power stroke. The bosch fuel injection system which the bmw's have injects fuel about 5-6 times. and the first injection gets the explosion going then the injector keeps feeding the flame.

  • Noise isn't the issue, the issue is it still sounds like a canal boat

  • @theoperative85 different bores, stroke, compression etc.

  • @derbigpr500 So is that the reason they have that distinct sound? I have a 06 nissan altima (gas) which always sounded similar to a diesel engine. Can I then assume that my altimas engine runs at lower rpms than the typical gas engine? If so is that the only reason they have that sound? Are there other factors? I ask because I am curious about gas engines all sounding slightly different but yet most diesels sound very similar. My experience is limited I live in Hawaii and there are few diesels.
