If you take a step back, I don't think these people's beliefs are particularly crazier than most other people's religious views. At least they are able to derive some decent messages from their beliefs. I think it's ok for Prince Philip to go along with it if they are happy with their beliefs and it helps them to make sense out of life. I imagine he feels it's not his place to shatter their belief system, and I can respect that, even though the whole situation is a bit strange to us.
