@44coonhunter Finally, someone has hit the nail on the head....you CANNOT shut down ANY power source that you NEED.....SO,at best its a very small supplemental source however,a real waste of alot of money and resources.
-
This is why currently manufactured windmills lock into position when wind speeds get too high.
-
no pitch..! M)

What i wonder is if they could put the wings in a position so the wind wouldnt be able to turn it. But the other hand they wont need to i guess since they have breaks.
-
well at least a windmill can produce enough power to pay for its own construction in just 600 years or so.
-
and when the wind isnt blowing where do you get your power from? somewhere there is a coal powered power plant or nuke plant producing electricity for you. they dont just shut them down when the wind is blowing, so they are still churning out all the polution you green weinies are screeming about. wind is only supplemental, not a replacement. shut down the coal and nukes and tell me how you all like living in the dark. what we have now can barely stop rolling blackouts, wind will never do.
-
Yeah, and the one nuke plant makes power far beyond what 20,000 of these would.
-
when this thing went wrong they didn't have to clear a 20km ring around it for the next thousand years, kind of make wind power a winner in my book.
Yeah I remember hearing about this, basically the brakes failed, wind turbines have brakes on the shaft that stop the blades turning in overly high winds and the brakes failed on this one during a storm, the blades started to turn too fast and a blade failed which caused it to chop through the tower, still on the bright side one of these going bang is a lot safer and easier to replace/clean up than a nuke power plant : )
