A nation's future hangs in the balance when it cannot educate its youth. Using a journalistic approach, The Miseducation of Pakistan explores the country's appalling public education system. Schools with no teachers, schools overflowing with garbage, schools under the open sky, without drinking water or electricity; this is what most students of public schools in Pakistan can look forward to. Little wonder that a vast majority of primary school graduates can't even be considered literate by international standards.

All the while, a corrupt hierarchy of officials and school staff line their pockets with funds meant for educating the nation's children and powerful feudals deny the children of their peasants the right to even a basic education, while sending their own offspring to the best schools in the country and abroad. And no one is held accountable.

Using In-depth interviews and shocking footage, the filmmakers reveal a country where quality education is reserved only for a chosen few, while millions of children are denied the chance of a future.

  • My school is raising $12,000 to build a school in Pakistan.

  • i'm from india and I read a good bit about similar issues there. india and pakistan both have corruption and lack of law enforcement to blame for their problems.

but pakistan has an extra burden that india does not - the army. if that appendix can be cut to be a more manageable size, then the money saved can be used to boost education in a way that india cannot do on account of her size.

  • They showed my high school! I guess I'm one of the few lucky ones who got to study in an expensive private school.

  • i think pakistan should get rid of military rule and have a socialist revolution. any help we the indian socialists are there with you.

  • Its not very different in India when you get past the urban areas. Problems like corruption, illiteracy as well as good things like people's desire for a better future for their kids are shared ideals on both sides of the border.

But Pakistan has a problem that India does not. It has a series of governments that are all Obsessive Compulsive about Military and Religion. These would have been useful in a bygone era. But in the 21st century, neither of these will bring properity.

  • India is far better than Pakistan. I studied in a govt aided school in India. Today, i am a physician in USA! Pakistan's female literacy is abysmal. Too much dependence on Islamic education has brought nothing but shame to Pakistan.

  • I am on a visit to India from USA. I am told that few here depend on govt schools. Even my mom's housemaid sends her only girl to a private school! Everyone wants "English" education. People have stopped depending on govt to deliver and there is a silent revolution in "private" schools. India has some very good schools but these are expensive.

  • sumhow i doubt they spend that much on military

  • nah....india aint that bad....its gt preti good literacyu rates compared to pakistan....but india n pakistan need 2 learn frm sril lanka and china...both have 90%plus literacy rates....

  • its sad..i hope somebody can show this to mush...its time for him to go
