@Athenaikos Well the Turks did vote in favour of reunification, it was the Greeks who voted against it. I honestly believe the Greeks now being bankrupt must accept that they have been the spoiled child of europe for too long and stop blocking every Turkish interest.

In that case you do not need the EU. At the moment, based on the fiscal crisis I don't think EU has place for any other candidates, unless very small countries. I did not realize that Turkey does not need the EU. No problem, because the Europeans have their hands full at the moment.

We will never give up on the rights of Turkish Cypriots. Turkey is an extremely powerful nation which has huge influence in the world. If we enter the EU we will rule it, otherwise we are certainly not interested. Turkey doesn't need the EU, we are becoming a major global power and Europe is on the decline, thank God..

Europe is not a confused power as Ibrahim suggests. EU is very rational entity and it knows that its long term goal is to include Russia as a key partner. Turkey needs to promote a reunification of Cyprus as a first test of its usefulness in the its region. BTW, I think the confusion is on Turkey as to (a) what it wants to be (b) whether such aspirations are achievable or simply not attainable in the short term. Strategic depth is code for Turkish uncertainty.
