In Mexico, Builder paid a private Individual to wire his house at the time of construction to by pass the meter only allowing 25% of the power going thru the meter. the other 75% was redirected to a separate junction box, and this is 20 years later and the power companies never found any thing miss functioning. Would this be though shall not steel?

@gatornader as much as yours sounds like a decent experience, mine was the opposite.  i was with a co-op for 20 years, they were the most expensive rude a-holes i ever dealt with. i went 10 miles down the road and my electric bill changed over 100 bucks a month cause i went with a different company..

@rcacad bingo, Its eligal to modify a meter... fines here include replacing the meter, so he just cost himself $2500 to $7500 dollar fine plus the replacement cost of the meter :-\

Funny all you need is external power to slow it down or... make it go backwards :-)

wind, solar... etc.. power comes from you through the meter they pay you lol

Not all power providers are "for profit". Electric Cooperatives provide power to areas unserved by Investor-Owned Utilities because they couldn't make a profit. When you steal power from a cooperative, you are stealing money from the rest of the membership of that cooperative. Stop with the "down with corporations" rationalization. You are stealing from your neighbors!
