IA is one of my favorite movies of all time which is why I thought The Departed was awesome. If anything I liked The Departed more when I found out it was based on IA.

Dude are you guys gonna compare Infernal Affairs and TheDeparted to no end? Even though personally I like IA more but they both have their own merits...

Agreed both have their own merits... but Infernal Affairs has better replay value.
The only comment I have towards Scorsese is that incorrectly thanked the wrong Asian culture for his inspiration. I guess he must have been too shocked to have finally won an Oscar (via inspiration from series of movies). Wonder if he didn't see all of the Infernal Affairs movies would he have won an award.

Infernal Affairs was the source of material for the Departed. The Departed was made in a Scorsese style. It may have the same storyline, but they are completely different films because of how Scorsese incorporated mob life into the Departed. Scorsese could have totally fucked up but he didn't that is why He got the glory. You make it sound like it is plagiarism. If Scorsese made the film exactly the same way then I can see an argument. But set aside race and all bullshit, both films were amazing.

Correct.. and if Miramax hadn't have made a limited release, he probably wouldn't have heard about it. This is my all time *favourite* film and I was truly blown away by it when I first saw it in my local cinema over here in England. I didn't even intend on seeing it, and just walked into the wrong room! But as the story unfolded, I was absolutely hooked on it.
