This is a series of gameplay vids I'm doing highlighting overlooked games for the PS2.

Steambot Chronicles is one of those games that's hard to describe. It's an adventure game with sandbox style gameplay, mech combat, an RPG feel, and even a little music game thrown in for good measure.

It's story, and feel remind me of an RPG, but the game plays like an adventure game. Plus there are cities that you are free to explore, and many side quests that you can do too.

Though it doesn't play the same, it's style reminds me a lot of Mega Man Legends. I'm getting the same vibes from this game. They don't play the same, but they both have an RPG/action adventure mixture that reminds me of each other.

I've had this game for almost a year, but I didn't start playing it till yesterday, and I'm hooked.

It's not perfect. There are some small gripes I have with the game. The controls while in your Trotmobile will take some getting used to, and your trotmobile navigates through the city on auto pilot, so it can take a very long time to get where you need to go. The cities also aren't one seamless world. They are broken up by short, but noticeable load times while walking to different parts of them.

So far, those are my only two really big complaints. There's a lot of cool stuff to do in this game, and many different ways to earn money with which you can buy upgrades for your Trotmobile, and a number of other items like clothes, food (you have to feed your main character on a regular basis or else he'll start moving sluggishly), or a variety of other items.

It's a really neat, and charming game, and I would recommend it to anyone. If you're into these types of games, you'll be hooked.

Steambot Chronicles is only available on the PS2.

  • whats the game about? i mean with the riding the robots?

  • @jr2nd It's hard to explain, but imagine a sandbox style game with RPG elements and robots, and that's part of it. There's actually a lot of variety to the game.

  • This game kinda reminds me of Dark Cloud 2. BTW, do you think the Dark Cloud games are underrated gems?

  • @hl202 I know the DC games got a good amount of attention (at least the first one did), but I'm not sure how well they sold. I'm not sure if they qualify. They are pretty well known. I'll have to look into it more.

  • damnit how do you pick up stuff and throw during battles, ive done it but it was by pure luck

  • Ever play GrimGrimoire (PS2)? Sideview 2D RTS, good story that's a shameless Harry Potter rip-off with a time looping twist, that beautiful Vanillaware art, great if short soundtrack, great game balance, solid control scheme, interesting units, plenty of replay value, especially the 25 bonus levels. All it lacks is a random level generator and multiplayer (the same faults of the PS2's other RTS gem, AVP Extinction, but the replay value is better on this one).

  • @2010Ezekiel Seek and Destroy

  • Omg! I feel so sad now, watching this. :(

This, The Jak games, ratchet and clank, and DBZ were my favorite games.

This one was at the top of the list though... I wish I had a ps2, just so I can play it again. :(

  • is this game available on xbox or ps3 or any other console??

  • I might still have this one but I remember this game having no replay value after the main quest. You could fly in your bumpy-trot when certain conditions are met but only in one area of the game. The mini games are there: playing pool, busing people around the city, making deliveries and arena battles but I got boered with this too since it went nowhere. I still had fun though and the customizing was fun too

  • @D1rtyWhite Haha, besides that as well. I'm already about to round out my entire collection for AC games.

  • i got this game as part of a buy 1 get 1 free with shadow heart covenant for a total £5 gbp!!!! it's listed on ebay for £40!!! result!! i'm not gonna sell it though game looks hella cool!!!!!

  • @2010Ezekiel check out the armoured core series.
