Thousands Protest in Israel Due to High Cost of Living

Though Netanyahu's broad-based, conservative governing coalition should keep him in office until the next election in 2013, polls show his personal approval rating plummeting. Media attention has focused on the massive concentration of corporate power in a small number of Israeli business groups. Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz hit back on Sunday at the growing national protests over the rising cost of living, saying some reforms being demanded might lead to economic crises like those besetting parts of Europe and the United States. The warnings followed marches by some 150,000 demonstrators, the resignation of a top treasury official and questions from leading commentators over Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's ability to ride out a revolt by the middle class. America's to raise the debt ceiling crisis, Republicans, Tea Party and Democrats duking it out. Thousands of Israeli's are marching in Israel due to the high costs of housing and gas. The whole world is experiencing the economic realities of living. Working at McDonalds or Pizza Hut doesn't pay the bills have to look for work to enjoy the necessities of life. Looking for the government to give handouts or welfare checks are not the answers. These protesters walking around with the revolutionary posters of Che is quite concerning. Almost seems that Obama has planted some demonstrators to stir the shit.

The problem is though that the leftist parties don't have any realistic alternatives. Most are in thrall to their various client groups or trade union backers and so cannot make the tough economic adjustments necessary. That's certainly true of the British Labour Party and I'm sure it's true of Israel's Labour Party as well.
