Portlandia came to town in 1985. My husband drove her in. Found this old video and thought it would be fun to share

  • the dream of the 1890's is alive in Portland...

  • @extremotheclown Screw you, portland is like the best location for it.....imagine if it was like miami instead.....that just wouldnt work out.

  • That a beautiful statue ! Love the 80's style music too!

  • I was there as a kid!

  • No, doublebubble, it was the dream of the *80's*, thanks. Love the video - I was there, but on the river, so I missed the parade and lifting onto the plinth. We were on the Portland Sternwheeler following the barge and the statue up the river. I also have pics of her during assembly while she was in pieces at the Gunderson yard (her head in a rail car was quite surreal). FYI to visitors - to see her eye to eye during the day, go up the escalator in the Standard Building.

  • i remember her rolling by - it was raining and thousands of us lined the streets... as she went past everyone reached out and touched her fingertips... myself included. it was a welcome to remember. i walked down the few blocks three days in a row to see her being placed on the Portland Bldg.

the ciy has certainly lost something since then... a lot of something. its not as laid back as it used to be. everyones in a hurry. way too crowded and rent out of control. i miss the old '80's Portland.

  • OMG! She already was at the waterfront? They should've built a pedestal and left her there.
