Stourbridge-based youth choir Stream of Sound singing a hymn written by Joseph Nicholds of Coseley (c.1784-1860). This version comes from a collection of manuscript music associated with a group of Lancashire musicians known as the Larks of Dean; a slightly different version of Courage appears in Nicholds's 1829 publication Sacred Music.

Awake, our souls; away, our fears,
Let every trembling thought be gone;
Awake, and run the heavnly race,
And put a cheerful courage on.
True, tis a strait and thorny road,
And mortal spirits tire and faint;
But they forget the mighty God,
That feeds the strength of every saint.
Thee, mighty God! whose matchless power
Is ever new and ever young,
And firm endures, while endless years
Their everlasting circles run.
Swift as an eagle cuts the air,
Well mount aloft to thine abode
On wings of love our souls shall fly,
Nor tire amidst the heavnly road.
This video is from a concert given by Stream of Sound in St. Thomas' Church Stourbridge at the end of a day's workshop of music by local 'West Gallery' composers, on 20th February 2010.
