The elevators are really there for people returning to the surface, and for freight. You'd miss about a third of the cave if you didn't walk in through the natural entrance. Funny story - the park staff nicknamed that elevator "Windows 95" because that's when they installed those glass doors.

The elevator is there because people don't want to walk 750 feet! The revolving door is silly, sould they just dig a hole and you have a door-like thing?
