I share a tip or two about 3D Modeling. Hopefully it is useful to beginners in 3D Modeling.

It covers the Duplicate Face tool and the Adjacent Selection.

LOADING THE MEL SCRIPT PLUG-IN
_____________________________________

To do this, go to your script editor. ( There's a script editor button at the bottom right of your Maya screen or you can go to Windows|General Editors|Source Editor.

When you open it up, go to File|Source Script. Now, search for your .mel file and click it once, do not open it up yet. Under File Name, copy the name and then press Open.

Now, in the white box, press CTR + V or paste the name of the script you copied. Drag your cursor to select the name, then go to File|Save Script To Shelf and put whatever name you want and save it as MEL.

When that's done, click on the button of the mel script you loaded and a separate box will appear.

  • Being such an idiot, I realise you ca just delete the cylinder middle part (where the vertices meet) instead of duplicating mesh

  • Wow. Never knew that duplicate tool was that powerful. This really helps out a lot, thanks! Do you have any tips about creating complex polygon shapes over an object on Maya, perhaps? Like, for example, creating the complexity of the borg cube in Star trek or the intricate layout of the Death Star in Star Wars?

  • @AvanSnow @walkthroughyantram Thanks, appreciate it that it has helped someone. Im working on a university project on investigating on graphics but if I can get a majority of people to agree to have me make a tutorial based on this subject, I can go in depth with the technique if you want me to.

  • @AvanSnow also, to do the borg cube or star wars death star, you just need normal maps to fake the 3d shape

  • accent...im sure i can hear scottish in there

  • @rabthelad1 yup, you guessed it :D

  • It was incredibly useful

    thanx a lot

  • @mhofever thought so...same here. ;p

  • @mette0005 I may be doing a full tutorial on creating a next-gen weapon model for the UDK on Autodesk Maya or 3DS Max for a university project and would definitely share it if I do choose to go into detail for cylinder modeling.
