They are mostly Swiss, not German. German-speaking Swiss from a part of Switzerland that is now part of France.

Church is held every 2 weeks and it rotates from house to house so everyone holds church at their home at some point. Mennonites are the more liberal of the amish orders and they may have cars,phones,computers but they still have a very strong christian faith but they are less resistant to technology. I drive the amish around on a regular basis when a trip is too far for a buggy so I've learned a lot about them but at one time was as ignorant about them as some others on here.

@gato123452 And that shows just how ignorant you are they get an excellent education and the children speak 2 languages and can read in 3 languages english,amish,high german because amish is a different dialect than german but most of their religious books are written in german and I live among an amish settlement they are the nicest people I ever met with no crime in their midst and everyone works for their keep not wait for government handouts they also pay double school taxes theirs and ours

The are One of the best People because of their simplicity and not leaving the old tradition. and are trying their best to live a life which is much calm and not loud so that their souls can have peace always.

@subtle59 the Amish live a calm life yes but they don't get a good education and are ignorant people. also they are very stictly mean. and its like the past 100 years never happend
