  • This is great info but I'd like to add a little to it....at least from my own experience.

    I find that vegetable oils or any non saturated oils tend to get kind of sticky and tacky if not baked at a high enough temperature. For vegetable oils I'd turn the temp to 400 degrees or 425 and I'd leave it in there for two hours.

    If you're using animal based lard or bacon grease, then 350F for an hour might be fine. Thats just my two cents...

  • Not a big fan of cast iron, but this is a great tip to keep it in tact.
