...Man, that was a crapfest. Lol.
With users like JoeFenix and AlbertWeskerUMB running through worlds quickly, I decided to choose one level to beat them to the punch (no offense to you guys...just feels good to be first kinda, even though it doesn't matter, lol). For some reason I thought of this level, probably because I thought it would be pretty straightforward...well, I was wrong about that... -_-
My 2nd-best time before this was 2:09:93 (so I don't have a good estimate of the minimum shiny time, sorry). As you can see, the normal splits are 2:29/2:35/2:50 - so this shiny really requires you to optimize your conditions in the slowness that is the first phase. It took me two hours to get a dream like this, and phase two went pretty well too (Feather Fiend never travels too far when about to crash down, you have to return from where he started spawning chickens to do this, shaves some seconds) so I'm pretty dang happy about this run...
Basically, the first part, when FF goes across the screen three times, that is a fixed action. Everything after that though can completely vary, and from what I can tell it's all by chance:
-He can do zero, one, or two "fake" stomps when the feet are together. I wanted one exactly so that I can return to the left corner, because then it's a guarantee that he will be vulnerable for the 2nd hit immediately. This happens on two fakes as well but wastes seconds. For zero, the strategy is ruined and it's unlikely you can get to the 2nd phase as quickly.
-Once you are forced out of the corner (after the 2nd hit), FF can do the super-long, three-cross-screens action again (this is a run killer), or he can go red-lights and speed up pretty early on and start jumping. I *think* going all the way in the other direction helps this happen more often but I can't really be sure. What made this run so golden is that now I got the zero-stomps condition at this point - perfect!
I'll be hopefully doing more of these whenever I have the time, may be pretty sporadic or very few videos total, so no guarantees. I won't be doing a 100% playthrough or anything on camera for this game.
Great stuff, friend, but I actually just beat your time! Seriously though, I think the whole thing is completely random. I read your analysis on Gamefaqs and that definitely did not work all the time for me. I think you just have to keep retrying until you get the "right" exposed jumps from the boss.

@AlbertWeskerUMB :( That sucks then, no other level so far has seemed to rely on luck...

Same with the final boss... Ugh.
Also, I love the chicken's music; one of my favorite boss music in the game!

@TheDWJProductions Well on the final boss, you can speed things up by hitting the hands when they swoop across the screen quickly. That's probably the difference from gold to shiny

Would you consider his jumps in the first phase to be randomized?

@TheDWJProductions I think where DK is relative to the robot might be a factor, but I couldn't conclude anything...
