Elisha Abas protégé of Maestro Artur Rubinstein and life long student of Pnina Salzman, Israel's First Lady of Piano, had his first debut at Carnegie Hall at the age of 11 with Leonard Bernstein. His rare interpretations and authentic spirit that he most likely inherited from his great-great grandfather, Alexander Scriabin, remind you of the old masters. In the first half of his life, Elisha accomplished what usually takes musicians, a lifetime to achieve. By the time Elisha was eight, he had already earned the respect and honor of being considered a colleague of great masters such as Isaac Stern, Zubin Mehta, Maestro Artur Rubinstein, and Leonard Bernstein. Amongst his many accomplishments, Elisha performed with Israel Philharmonic Orchestra with Zubin Mehta; recorded a solo recital for the Voice of Israel (Kol Israel, the National Radio Broadcasting); appeared in a documentary with and about Artur Rubinstein's friends.
His early career starts at The Jerusalem Conservatory of Music at the age of four where he studied under Ms. Ester Medvetsky. Soon after he began to study with the late Pnina Salzman, who became his life long teacher until December 2006. Elisha has performed in venues all over the world including The Royal Albert Hall, Carnegie Hall, as well as private performances for Yitzhak Navon and the exiled queen of Italy, Maria Jose di Savoia. Throughout his career, Elisha has received many accolades, including first place in the American-Israel Cultural Foundation music competition for eight consecutive years and first place in the Claremont Piano Competition.
At the age of 15, Elisha had enough self-perception to understand that he needed a break from a performance oriented life. In 2004, he returned to the stage performing in various venues around Israel. Since his return, Elisha has been frequently showcased in many Israel newspapers and television shows. More recently, YES Television of Israel started filming a documentary about Elisha's life and return to the world. Elisha splits his time between New York and Israel, where he is actively developing the second part of his international career.

  • this guy is such an idiot - poor elisha for having to put up with this ridiculous man. i mean... what a moron!!

  • This guy Harold is really not the best interviewer for Elisha. My previous comment is a bit harsh, but the interaction in this interview was horrible. Elisha had to exercise much patience! Like Harold said, substantially different generations. Not to mention the language barrier and Harold's repetitive "do you understand". Ugh

  • This guy is simply not worthy, to be the one interviewing Elisha. Elisha is MAGIC.

  • Elisha is a great pianist and great guy, but who is this wag interviewing him?? he has no idea about music or how to interview somebody- how embarrassing!

  • Harold, don't interview classical musicians. Music really isn't your thing. Some of your questions make you sound primitive.

  • Arold Channer let Elisha Abas answer to your questions, quit INTERRUPTING him...

  • "5 year olds are so GORGEOUS!" HAHA!

  • "Genes are really important." LOL

  • It is very clear to me. He is interested in the great talent that came from parents who are not musicians but there is another great talent in the background, Alexander Scriabin. It is genetics and not the way he was raised.

  • Why does the professor stress the word "genes" to the extent that he does in this interview. What does he want to get at? Genetic differences between people?
