College of Charleston students took part in the Avkat Archaeological Project, in conjunction with students and scholars from Trent University and Princeton University and other students and scholars from Great Britain, Canada, Australia, and Turkey.
Working in remote north-central Turkey, students learned the basics of archaeological survey -- a month-long intensive student/faculty research experience -- and obtained unique perspectives on rural Turkish life.
Students were also able to take related day trips to significant sites at Cappadocia, Hattusha, Yazilkaya, and Amasya during research breaks.
