Premise Registration for Beef Producers
The Premise Registration Program is a part of the National Animal Identification System. To meet the goal of being able to trace an animal back to their source, all locations that have livestock present must be identified. Premise registration is procedure for identifying all locations with livestock.
The actual registration process is very simple. Producers will complete a one-page form and take it to the local Extension, Farm Bureau or Farm Service Agency Office. Farm Service office personnel will enter the information into the national database. Producers will receive their premise registration number in the mail.
The Premise Registration Form does not require personal information. The information required consists of the producers and/or landowners name, address and telephone number. If a producer has animals on more than one farm, then the locations of these farms is also noted on the form.
Premise Registration is voluntary until January 1, 2008. At that time it will be mandatory that all animals with livestock be registered. Individual animal identification will be mandatory on January 1, 2009.
Farms or other locations requiring registration are those that will have any of the following animals on the premises: dairy cattle, beef cattle, bison, swine, sheep, goats horses, poultry, deer, elk, llama or emu. Premise registration is not difficult. Producers are encouraged to complete their registration before it becomes mandatory. Registration is the first step in the National Animal Identification System and will assist in disease management if a major disease outbreak occurs.
For additional information, contact your local Extension Agent, Farm Bureau Office or Farm Service Agency Office.
